Show and Tell Tuesday: Hometown Edition

Linking up with Erika's friend Andrea, because Erika is gone on Spring Break!  I do feel like Andrea is almost like a former student, though (bc she is so young, as well as Erika's friend), so I'm linking up with her!!

My hometown:  Puxico, MO

I would have to say, however, that I haven't lived my entire life in Puxico.  I was born at Fort Hood, Texas as an Army brat (Karon and I were apparently the first set of twins born on the Army base).  We moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and then to Puxico.  I don't really remember any of the above, so I truly do consider Puxico the only home I ever knew!

I grew up on a quiet little street, where all of us neighborhood kids would play hide and seek - AT MIDNIGHT, ya'll!!  I was not very old when we did this!  Like 9 or 10, maybe!  Oh, the fun we had!  I cannot even imagine letting my 9 year old outside at midnight to play hide and seek! Ha!  That's the joy of living in a small town!  Everybody's mother could yell at you and you would listen!!

We would also have sleepovers at my friend Darla's.  We would make sopapillias (so I can't spell the dang word) out of biscuits and eat them with honey!  We would more than likely make them around 2 am during our sleepover, which, if it was in the summer, would be when we happened to get out of the pool!!!  Again, I had "mothers" everywhere, so there was no need for my momma to worry about me!

Homecoming, though, was the time we ALL looked (still do) forward to!  The rides, the food, the games!!!  When I was younger, it was safe enough that my parents would let Karon and me just go!  We had to check in at the EAT Shack every so often, and lo and behold if we didn't we were in trouble!!  The EAT Shack is the VFW's food stand - most famous for it's Goatburgers!!

Oh, those Goatburgers!!! BLECH!  I have never eaten one, and probably never will!!  Oh, everyone says they are delicious!  Gary likes them, and Michael likes them, but this girl?  Oh, heck no!!  My momma used to cook the meat, and would SMELL like them!!  Even back then my sense of smell was way too sensitive, so I couldn't stand the thought of eating that smell!! Ha!

I love my little town of Puxico, and even though I don't know many of the people there anymore, it is still home to me, and always will be!!

This is a picture of our gym now, but when I was in school, the walls beside the doors were all glass!!

I always said, "What do you get when you cross a Puxico Indian and a Zalma Bulldog?  A couple of Advance Hornets!!"
This is a picture of the "old" high school!  It was torn down several years ago and a new one built.  Oh the memories!!

Thanks for stopping by so soon!!  Only a wee bit late on this post, but, hey!  Cut a girl some slack!  You actually get a two fer today!!!

Love to all

Weekend Recap: ON TUESDAY!

This is so me, as of late!  LATE!  It drives me crazy, and I'm trying to break the habit (as you can tell, that I am typing this at 11:27 PM on Tuesday, so it won't actually post until Wednesday!) UGH!!

Enough grumbling, on to the weekend recap!

BETA!  Ah, I love it!  I take it for granted way too much, as I get wrapped up in everything and it tends to take a back burner.  (Boo!)

This past weekend I traveled to Branson, MO to help my favorite State Sr. BETA Sponsor, Traci Wilson, as she presided over her 1st convention.  I was there as the gopher, runner, judge, extra whatever she needed.

We stayed in the hotel with 500+ students grades 9-12.  Was it loud? Was it crazy? Yes, but it was so much fun!!!

In this case it was "Will it ever open and not be full?"

One of the highlights of my trip was that Gary, Aimie, and Haley (my daughter with another mother) came out to join me!  Aimie and Haley helped out in the judging department as a favor for Traci and me.  They really had a great time!  After the last session, the girls wanted to go to Joe's Crab Shack, and of course we said YES!!!  I LOVE CRAB LEGS!!  Not a big seafood fan most of the time, but oh my word!!!

I love this girl!  Don't pay attention to how awful I look!

Love this girl too!!  She's my crabby buddy!!  Her "bib" says Crabby Princess and mine says "Queen of Crabs"!  Ha!

Our waitress was Tatiana, and she made me homesick for my "foreign daughter" Luce!

So, I am sure my weekend sounds pretty tame to most of you, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!!

Thanks for joining me!  Hope to see you again!  This time, though, I will try not to be late! HA!

Friday Favorites

It's Finally Friday!!!  WooHoo!!  Actually, as I'm typing this, it's really still Thursday for me because I haven't gone to bed (I'm too excited!!), so I decided to do the Friday Favorites, and link up with Erika, Andrea, and Narci tomorrow morning when they all post!! Ha!

 Friday Favorites

1.  This little puppy, right here!  I was having a very blue day one day this week, and even though Gary loved me and hugged me, there's something about having a puppy to cry on, and know that she loves me, tears and all!! (Gary does too, of course!)

Gary took this while she was sleeping on me - precious!
Isn't she adorable???

2.  Girl Scout Cookies!  I got my fix Monday, and have had to have Gary HIDE them from me!! Ha!  He's not very good at it, but I have had awesome self control!

Put these babies in the freezer, and OH MY WORD!!!

3.  BETA!!  It's Sr. Beta State Convention time in Branson, and as Jr. State Sponsor, I'm here for support for my Sr. State Sponsor, Traci!  In other words, I'm here to do whatever she needs, and to be her cheerleader whenever and wherever she needs me to be!!  This is what I've been looking forward to for several weeks!  Tons of kids, grades 9-12, who are talented, enthusiastic, LOUD, and FUN!!!

Traci and I at the State Sponsor training in September!  Love this girl!!

Love the t shirts this year!!!  #scholarshipfund

Thanks for stopping by!  I appreciate you taking the time to share my little world! Have an awesome weekend, and look for a weekend recap Monday!!

GO MOBETA!!!!

Love to all,

Sharon
